Questions and Answers
Remanufactured, NOT rebuilt. And yes there is a difference, a big difference. Unlike many of the products out there, S&J engines are not simply taken apart and rebuilt. They are painstakingly inspected, piece by piece, element by element and each component is given new life. And rather than expect yesterday's equipment to keep up with today's tougher engine tolerances, S&J uses the latest in engine technology, tools, and expertise to transform your engine. S&J continually upgrades its equipment and training to ensure the engines we produce today are equal to or better than the original. When you purchase your engine from S&J Engines you receive the highest quality remanufactured engine available from the most committed engine supplier in existence. When it is possible to do it better, they will.
In order to activate your engine warranty, S&J Engines, Inc. must receive a completed Warranty Form within sixty (60) days of receipt of purchase. Failure to complete the verification process renders your warranty null and void. To view warranty requirements and conditions, click

**Note: sometimes we have engines that are already built / ready to ship that are painted grey. If the color you select is different, we will include a can of paint in the color you select.

Q:
Looking at this for my 85 Grand Wagoneer. The current situation is to have a new 5.9 V8 built from bottom up. This is much cheaper, but it is comparable? (please answer as though I have no knowledge of what all this means, I am a total newbie and learning as I go) Thank you!
Asked by:
Shae
- 1/13/2016
A:
Our remanufactured engines are the best available. S&J Engines isn't like your typical ATK or Jasper engines, where you have a 50-70% failure rate. They take great care in remanufacturing each engine with great detail, and have the best warranty we've found anywhere. We have also used their engines in our own personal vehicles long before we started selling them on our site. The price is also half what I used to pay with other high-end rebuilders, and they come with the same or better quality.

Q:
If I ordered this for my 86 Wagoneer what else would you recommend ordering and replacing when doing the install ?
Asked by:
Jordan
- 4/15/2016
A:
I recommend replacing the water pump and the motor mounts. Depending on the condition of the other items (intake, carb, distributor, etc), you can replace them if worn or if you are looking for performance upgrades.

Q:
Does the warranty require installation be done by anyone in particular or can I do it myself? At what point would the clock start on the 7 years? Purchase date? Installation? Running?
Asked by:
Phil
- 3/25/2016
A:
No, anyone that is mechanically inclined can install it as long as they follow the installation instructions that come with the engine. The date of receipt of the engine is generally used as the beginning of the warranty period.

Q:
I have a core motor, would that take the place of the 300$ core charge? And what about shipping for core?
Asked by:
Tim
- 5/11/2016
A:
The core charge is charged up-front, and if a usable core is returned within 30 days, the core charge is refunded. Note that shipping is included on the return core engine.

Q:
I see the core charge for this engine. What if I don't want to get rid of my old engine?
Asked by:
Alex
- 5/30/2016
A:
You would simply pay the core charge, and if you choose not to send your original engine back, there would be no refund on the core charge.

Q:
Does the enine come with the timing chain cover since the oil pump is in the tI'm ing cover of the 360? Are the engines typically bored out? Do you send a complete spec sheet with each engine?
Asked by:
Kevin Lenart
- 6/30/2016
A:
No, you will either reuse your existing timing chain cover or we can sell you a new unit. The engines vary on each build, and can go from simply honed to bored depending on condition / etc. A spec sheet is available upon request, and will be sent after the engine has been built.

Q:
I am going to purchase a AMC 360 crate motor through you. I have a question or two on the core or sending in my engine. How does the process work to send in my current engine to have rebuilt and sent back to me? I like the idea of keeping original engine with my GW. Also, does the Edelbrock cam upgrade include the Edelbrock lifters and springs?
Asked by:
Todd
- 5/22/2017
A:
If you are sending in your core, then on the order page in the Core Charge pull down, you will select NO Core Charge, I'm Sending My Engine to be Rebuilt. Then we'll have your engine picked up, brought back and remanufactured, then we'll send it back to you. Yes, the Edelbrock cam includes the lifters and springs.
