there should be a metal tag on the firewall or inner fender with the paint codes stamped on it as I recall.

We are the third owners of our 78 CC wide trac and found the original factory order underneath the drivers seat in the springs all rolled up. It shows all the selections for that particular vehicle. But it's also coded in the VIN.

paint is not in the vin but on the body tag under the hood.

Colors for 1981 in brown are:
Dark Brown Metallic (0M): __-30724
Copper Brown Metallic (1E): __-31507
Chesnut Brown Metallic (1H): __-31508

The 2 digit code in the "blank" section means the following, depending on the paint:
83 = Enamel Paint
84 = Acrylic Laquer
85 = Acrylic Enamel

So example for Enamel Dark Brown Metallic is 83-30724

Hope that helps...

Oh almost forgot the code in (xx) above are the paint codes that should be on the firewall on the upper drivers side corner, dead center, all by itself...

My 79 says "9A", which in 79 meant Alpaca Brown Metallic
