This is a new evaporator core for 1986-1991 FSJ's. This unit replaced the core that is located under the dash near where the A/C blower is located.
Q:
Is the picture of the evaporator correct? It looks different than what is in my 1989 Grand Wagoneer.

It is, but what we've found is that almost every full size Jeep from 1974 all the way through 1991 used the 1974-1985 style, here: bjsoffroad.com/AC-Evaporator-Core-1974-1985_p_871.html

The old unit Has compression fittings. Does this come with adapters and does it take the same expansion valve?

This unit comes with the fittings shown in the image, and does not include adapters. It should have the same connections as your stock system, and shouldn't require adapters.
