Replacement Insulator Gasket that goes in between the carb insulator and the carburetor on 2 barrel carbs. For those that aren't familiar with these parts, on a stock carburetor, there is a
that raises the carb off the intake manifold to reduce temps of incoming air / fuel. This gasket sits between the insulator plate and the carburetor.
I have a '72 J-4500 with all original AMC 360 engine, including the original 2 barrel intake. I wish to swap the original Motorcraft 2100 carb for a 2150, which I have but I don't have the gaskets for. My intake seems to have a metal adapter/spacer plate which has vacuum ports coming off it. Then it has a thick gasket sort of thing which I was assuming was like this gasket but it is shaped more like the Carburetor-Insulator-to-Manifold-Gasket but thick and with some more holes in it. I think the weird metal adapter was something only used a couple years but can't seem to find much info on it. So my question is will this gasket work in place of the original one? Should I also get the carburetor insulator plate you sell? Will these work on my '72 because the listing shows they fit 74-88 and not the 72 although it does list "Models: All 2-Barrel Carb-Equipped FSJ's (Motorcraft Model 2100 & 2150)" which seems to me should cover the '72 but I'm not sure. Is the '72 an exception to this? If so, do you have the correct gasket/spacer for the '72? Thank you Steven Hill. By the way, my wife bought me a fuel sending unit from you guys and it works perfectly. I now have a working gas gauge :)
The insulator plate (spacer) we have is the only one available. I believe 72-73 used the style you have, and 74-up used the plastic (fibrous) style. Both the 2100 and 2150 share the same bolt pattern and bore, so theoretically this unit should fit your application as well. You will however have to modify / reroute vacuum to bypass the insulator as it doesn't have any provisions for vacuum connections.
