Questions and Answers
New drop pitman arm for use with 4-inch and 6-inch suspension systems.
Perfect for a 4" lift
I added a 4" lift and noticed some issues with steering afterward. Installed this part and it is back to factory feel.

Pitman arm
Very heavy duty. A lot beefier than the stock. Fits great too.

Q:
Are you able to measure the approximate center of hole to center of hole distance of this pitman arm and post it here so myself and others will know so we can compare with other brands? Thank you.

Q:
My J10 has a 4 inch lift, but a straight pitman arm. This arm says it's for 4" to 6" lifts... should the previous owner who installed the lift have put a drop arm in? Thanks!
Asked by:
Ryan Garone
- 4/12/2019
A:
Possibly. About half of 4" kits require a drop pitman arm, and the other half don't. No one has found a way to definitively decide ahead of time which side of the fence you'll be on. The only way to determine if its necessary on your application is to install the kit, drive down the road at about 40mph and hit a pot hole or lip on a bridge. If you get Death-Wobble, then you need the drop pitman arm. Because that can be scary / dangerous, we always recommend installing the drop pitman arm on 4" kits to be safe.

A:
This drop pitman arm will accommodate up to 6" of lift (will not work with SOA conversions).

Q:
What is the center to center distance of the mounting holes on a parallel plane or, a different way = sweep distance? Most are 5.5" (or +/- 7" diagonally). I need longer and at least 3" drop. Thank you
Asked by:
Jeff
- 4/19/2018
A:
All of the aftermarket drop pitman arms feature the same center to center distance from what we've found. Ours has around a 3" drop.

Q:
I installed the 2.5" lift kit. When I hit a good sized bump the steering takes off fairly aggressively. Do you think a drop pitman arm is the solution? Will this arm for 4"-6" lifts work with a 2.5"?
Asked by:
Devin
- 8/28/2020
A:
yes, that pitman arm will fit, but more than likely you have a worn out steering stabilizer shock.

Q:
Hello, Do you know if this pitman arm has a shorter center to center distance than Rough Country's 6602 drop pitman arm? I am currently running the Rough Country 3" lift kit and 6602 drop pitman arm and my drag link rubs my tie rod and steering stabilizer bracket. Thank you for any help in this matter.
Asked by:
Daniel
- 9/8/2018
A:
We don't carry any Rough Country parts, so unfortunately I don't know how theirs compares to ours.

Q:
I have a 68 Jeep Gladiator and swapped in axles out of a 78 Jeep J20. Will this drop pitman arm be the one I need or the one for the older truck? Thanks!
Asked by:
Nick
- 3/9/2019
A:
The pitman arm is based on the axles and tie rods, so you'd want the later pitman arm.

Q:
In response to another question you say this does not work with SOA setups. What would keep this from working on an SOA lifted FSJ?
Asked by:
Don
- 9/28/2020
A:
Because a drop pitman arm doesn't work with SOA conversions. When the passenger side of the axle starts to drop down, the steering linkage binds with the leaf spring, essentially locking the steering and you no longer have control of the vehicle. To safely have an SOA conversion, you must run either Crossover Steering or Full High Steering, which moves some of the tie rods above the leaf spring. We have those kits here: https://www.bjsoffroad.com/search.asp?keyword=crossover+steering&search=
