Questions and Answers
Extra thick polyethylene replacement gas tanks. These tanks include new straps, lock rings and o-rings. Tank is 21 gallon capacity and is approximately 53" long. 1978-1979 model tanks have an approximately 1" diameter filler neck. If you have a 1978 model, you need to verify the filler neck size before ordering (1977 model fill necks are approximately 2" diameter).

I bought this because I couldn't find anything else. They all seem to be exactly the same no matter what vendor. Overall it is a quality tank, but the brackets were a horrible fit for 1972 Wagoneer. I had to fabricate my own or the tank would fall out. It's about 2 inches shorter than the steel tank but you have to mount it fully forward or it will contact the rear axle. Filler neck is only a molded nipple, not long gooseneck like original. You'll have to buy extra hose, cut it, then and patch them together with short length of steel pipe. Fill vent is not in middle of top like original even though there is a boss on the mold, rather it is at rear next to vent and fill neck. You'll have to extend this forward to connect to original hose. I used 1/2 copper pipe and couple of elbows. Also original tank had 3 vent lines, this has only one at rear. Even though they offer different part number for later Wagoneers, it seems that this tank more closely matches the later designs and isn't really designed as exact replacement. You'll be happy when you get it in and don't have any leaks or rust, but just throw away the brackets and you'll save yourself a lot of headaches.

Q:
Does this tank have internal baffles to minimize sloshing like the OEM steel tanks? Also, the photos is pretty low resolution, I don't see a fitting for the intermediate vent pipe, is there one included?

A:
These tanks are made with a fuel bowl built-in to the mold of the tank. The larger end where the pickup tube is installed, the tube and in-tank filter pull fuel from the fuel bowl. There are ports included for the fill and the vent hoses.

Q:
Ryan, do you have a suggestion for an intake fuel pump for this tank? I have an external fuel pump that is whining like my mother-in-law at Thanksgiving about how the turkey was cooked. Hope to switch to an intake fuel pump to make her SHUT UP ABOUT THE DAMN TURKEY DENISE, I BASTED IT EVERY 15MIN.

A:
Absolutely! Use this kit: http://www.bjsoffroad.com/Gen-III-LS-In-Tank-Fuel-Pump-Conversion_p_1953.html. Depending on your needs, you may need to regulate the pressure down.
