Questions and Answers
Red-Head Steering Boxes are some of the best remanufactured boxes in the industry! They use only the highest quality seals. All seals are either O.E.M. or produced by two high quality, long time suppliers of our industry. Probably the most unique and important thing they do is custom fit every single worm and piston assembly with new precision fit steel balls. This is a process not matched by any other company in the industry. This process is very important. The machining tolerances of the original manufacturing leave a small and varying amount of play that can be corrected in no other way.
Core Charge
: You will be charged $150 for a core charge. Contact us when the core is ready, and we will send you a return shipping label to send your core back to us. You must wrap your core up the same way your new box comes to you: Plugs in the ports, diaper wrapped around the plugs, placed in the heavy poly bag and put in the same box. By doing so it will ensure it will get to us with no issues. You must send the same box you ordered back to us for full credit on your core!
If we receive your core within 30 days we will credit your card back $150.
If we receive it between 31-60 days you will receive a $150 store credit.
If after 60 days, you forfeit your core charge.
Q:
How do I know if I need the 3 or 4 bolt mounting? I have a 79 Cherokee S that as far as I know has the original steering box.
Asked by:
Justin
- 3/3/2018
A:
You have to look at both sides of the frame at the box, and see if the original box is secured with 3 bolts or 4 bolts to the chassis.

Q:
I am looking for the Nut and washer that connects the pitman arm to the steering box can you help?

A:
We don't currently have a supplier for that part, but you should still be able to source it at a local auto parts store (either from the counter, or from the HELP section) as they are a universal standard Saginaw part.

Q:
I have a 1978 Jeep J10 truck. Truck was disassembled when I got it. Would I need a 3 bolt or a 4 bolt steering box?
Asked by:
Kenneth Morris
- 2/3/2019
A:
The only way to know is to count the number of bolt holes in the frame / lower bracket where the steering box mounts. Also, note that you will only receive the amount of core charge back as the one you send in. IE: if you buy a 4-bolt box and send in a 3-bolt core, you only get the lower core amount back.
